Answers

Getting Started

Can I bring a friend?
Yes more the merrier!

I don't have a dance partner
No problem. It is not necessary for you to bring a partner. Partners rotate throughout the classes so you’ll meet lots of new friends. During freestyle we encourage you to ask others to dance.

What should I wear?
Most people come straight from work and either wear their work gear or change into jeans. There really is no set thing to wear, we simply recommend something you feel comfortable in and can move about easily. It can get hot so ensure you can easily remove layers easily.

We recommend smooth soled shoes and low heel shoes for women.

Can Under 18 Year Olds Attend?
Our classes take place in licensed venues therefore it is not possible to accommodate those under the age of 18.

Is it Really For Beginners?
Yes it really is. Our Beginners Classes start at 7.45pm and are designed for complete beginner. Usually the class is made up of a mixture of Jive Nation regulars who have a variety of experience. Therefore if you do get stuck, your dance partner is likely to be able to help. It is the approach of our teachers and our regulars that have helped us gain our international reputation of being one of the most social inclusive environments in London. With Jive Nation you’re in the right hands.

Can I start any day? Or do I have to start on a specific day?
You are welcome to attend your first class on any day, but if it is your first time we strongly recommend you to arrive at 7.45pm and benefit from the start of the class.

Where are the venues?
Our venues are in Central London and close by the underground stations and major bus routes. Full addresses can be found on our webpage, but they are subject to change so we advise that you always check the website before leaving home.

I brought a ticket online, but I can't print it

If you've booked a place on our Intensive Beginners course we'll have a list with your name on it. If however you've brought the 6 Week Pass, we will need you to print the ticket in order to attend.

Its really last minute, your course is about to start. Are there still places?
Yes, there is more than likely going to be room for you. If not we'll make sure there is. If you've made the effort to attend, we won't turn you away. So come on down!

About Modern Jive

Jivenation reaches a basic 4/4 step similar to a Merengue. It’s smooth, easy and has no fancy footwork to worry about – you just learn the moves, master the smooth leads, and you are set!

How difficult is it?
It’s very easy, and at the end of a regular class we’ll have you dancing and actually capable by the end of the first night. After a few weeks you’ll be very comfortable. If you want to speed up your learning you can attend our Learn to Dance in a Day: Intensive Beginner Course

How different from other dances is it?
It has a lot of similarities with Salsa, Ceroc, Leroc, and some links with Ballroom. The basic structure is similar to Merengue. Its all about partner connection, lead and follow – lots of fun, and very easy to learn.

Is it easy to learn?
Yes!

I have two left feet!
Just get in there! Our teachers are experts, and will show you exactly what you need to know to find your feet. And all the other regulars will help you too – it’s very social, and people are always helping each other to practice and to learn

I’ve lost some property, how can I get it back?
In the first instance we recommend contacting the venue to see if your property has been handed in. If not, please phone us in the office stating which night you attended and who the teacher was, and we’ll do our best to help.

#Is Thurday Night at Temple still running?
Unfortnately the Temple Walkabout have decided to refurbish the function room and we are no longer able to use this venue on a Thursday.

I am unable to attend a Course I have booked on!

Please email us in the office (office@jivenation.co.uk) and let us know when you would like to attend. If there isn't a date available we'll hold your booking until you are ready.
